CBSE To Provide Evaluated Answer Sheets On DigiLocker Alongside Marksheets From Next Year

New Delhi : In a major reform aimed at enhancing institutional transparency and easing student anxiety, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to deliver scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets directly to students via DigiLocker.

This new facility will roll out starting from the next academic board examination cycle, allowing candidates to access their checked answer scripts simultaneously with their digital marksheets and passing certificates.  Currently, students must undergo a tedious, multi-stage online application process to review their performance.

After results are announced, they must separately apply and pay prescribed fees first for marks verification, then to obtain scanned copies, and finally for re-evaluation. The proposed integration will eliminate these individual steps, automatically uploading digitally signed, official answer books into a student’s secure cloud-based account.

This strategic shift follows recent operational pressures and technical scrutiny surrounding CBSE’s newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12. While digital evaluation was introduced to streamline grading, the post-result phase faced minor infrastructure bottlenecks due to an unprecedented surge in demand. Over four lakh students applied for answer booklet copies this year, doubling the volume from previous terms and leading to temporary portal slowdowns and payment gateway disruptions.

Furthermore, rare scanning mismatches and illegible uploads prompted the board to look for a more robust distribution network.  By leveraging the government-backed DigiLocker platform, CBSE aims to build a more secure, tamper-proof system that establishes absolute trust between students and examiners.

Technical teams are currently addressing logistical parameters, including encrypted data storage capacities, high-resolution scanning standards, and cybersecurity infrastructure required to manage millions of answer books simultaneously. Education ministry officials believe direct access will drastically reduce formal grading disputes, minimize clerical application errors, and provide students with immediate clarity regarding their academic performance.
