Congress Leaders Staged Flash Protest Near Prime Minister Residence Following Student Lathi Charge Incident

New Delhi : Top Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a flash protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Kalyan Marg residence in the national capital.

The high-voltage demonstration was organized to protest against alleged police high-handedness and a lathi charge on student demonstrators protesting over national examination paper leaks. Opposition leaders demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for an urgent, comprehensive discussion on examination integrity within Parliament.

Protesters marched toward the Prime Minister's residence after parliamentary proceedings faced repeated adjournments. Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh briefly met Rahul Gandhi at the site to urge the opposition delegation to disperse, but discussions remained inconclusive. Shortly thereafter, Delhi Police personnel intervened, detaining several senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and transporting them away in security buses. All detained leaders were released later in the evening.

Targeting the central government, Rahul Gandhi asserted that the opposition would continue its fight for student rights despite administrative pressure. Meanwhile, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representatives criticized the demonstration, characterizing sit-in protests near high-security ministerial residences as inappropriate and procedurally non-compliant with established protest guidelines. The confrontation marks a sharp escalation in political tensions as opposition parties continue to press the government over student welfare and competitive exam management.
