Landslide Blocks Shimla’s Cart Road; Rain Likely to Continue Through July 18

Shimla :  Heavy rainfall triggered a significant landslide in Shimla on Sunday morning, leaving the city’s busy Cart Road—a vital arterial route—completely blocked. The incident occurred near the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) headquarters, where debris and a fallen tree halted all vehicular movement.

 District administration, police, and specialized cleanup crews were immediately deployed to the site. While restoration work is currently underway to clear the debris and resume traffic, the event underscores the precarious conditions caused by the ongoing monsoon. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this specific incident.

Following days of intense precipitation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that rainfall activity will likely continue across the state until at least July 18.

 The region has seen a series of weather-related disruptions, including bridge collapses in Sangla and multiple landslides that have compromised road connectivity and residential structures in districts like Kinnaur and Shimla. Authorities have issued yellow alerts for several districts, warning residents and tourists to avoid landslide-prone zones, riverbanks, and areas susceptible to waterlogging.

 With slopes destabilized by continuous rain, officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and monitor official updates closely. As recovery efforts continue, the administration is prioritizing road clearance while keeping emergency teams on high alert to manage the challenges of the coming week.
