Doctor Donates ₹100 Crore Estate to Himachal Government

Hamirpur: A 77-year-old doctor from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district has set an extraordinary example of philanthropy by transferring his family’s property, valued at nearly ₹100 crore, to the state government.

Dr Rajendra Kanwar, a renowned physician from Jolsappar in the Nadaun Assembly constituency, has voluntarily handed over his movable and immovable assets to the Himachal Pradesh government during his lifetime. The property was acquired by Dr Kanwar and his late wife, Krishna Kanwar.

Dr Kanwar had already willed his entire estate to the state government in 2021. However, on August 5, 2026, he formally executed a gift deed, transferring the assets to the government. The mutation of the relevant land has also been completed in the name of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur.

Property Includes Land, Jewellery and Bank Deposits

According to an assessment conducted by the Public Works Department, the donated assets include approximately five kanals and five marlas of land, jewellery, a car, furniture and money deposited in bank accounts. The combined value of the movable and immovable assets is estimated to be around ₹100 crore, with the current market value reportedly exceeding that figure.

Confirming the gift deed, Nadaun SDM Nishant Sharma said that people as generous and socially committed as Dr Rajendra Kanwar and his wife are rare. He described the decision as an inspiring example of rising above material attachments and contributing to society.

The transfer has also been formally reflected in revenue records, making the state government the legal owner of the donated property.

Doctor Also Pledges His Body for Medical Education

Dr Kanwar has taken another significant decision for the medical community. After his death, he has chosen to donate his body for the academic and training needs of medical students.

He has submitted written consent to the Anatomy Department of the medical college and has also obtained the required identification document for the pledge.

Wants Property Used for Elderly and Needy

Dr Kanwar has expressed a clear wish regarding the future use of his donated property. He wants it to serve people in need, particularly in the healthcare sector.

He has suggested developing a geriatric care centre, old-age home or another specialised healthcare facility on the property. He also wishes for the future institution to be named “Krishna Rajendra” in memory of his late wife.

The doctor’s decision to donate his lifetime assets for public welfare has emerged as a powerful example of social responsibility and service, particularly at a time when healthcare and elderly care facilities remain important public needs.
