Apollo Lucknow Launches Specialized Adult Vaccination Center to Promote Healthy Aging

Lucknkow : Challenging the widespread misconception that vaccines are only for children, Apollo Medics Super Specialty Hospital has launched a dedicated Adult Immunization Center. The facility aims to provide a "shield of protection" for individuals over 50, a demographic increasingly vulnerable to life-threatening infections but largely unaware of preventive healthcare.

The center was inaugurated by Prof. R.C. Ahuja, Chairman of Internal Medicine at Apollo Lucknow. The initiative arrives at a critical juncture: while India is often celebrated as a young nation, its elderly population is projected to hit 193 million by 2030. Despite this shift, studies reveal that over 80% of Indian adults are unaware that vaccines for flu, pneumonia, and shingles are essential for their age group.

Dr. Mayank Somani, MD and CEO of Apollomedics, emphasized the center's preventive focus. "Aging naturally weakens the immune system, making seniors susceptible to severe complications and frequent hospitalizations. Our center is designed to help people secure their health before diseases strike, ensuring a more active and independent lifestyle."

The facility will offer personalized vaccination plans based on an individual’s age, lifestyle, and existing medical conditions (co-morbidities). Key vaccines available include Flu, Pneumococcal, Shingles (Herpes Zoster), Tetanus, Diphtheria, HPV, and Hepatitis A & B.

By integrating scientific consultation with expert supervision, the center seeks to reduce the mental and financial burden on families caused by preventable illnesses. Experts stress that adult immunization is not just a one-time medical stop but a lifelong commitment to safety, vital for achieving the World Health Organization’s (WHO) goal of "Healthy Aging."
