Affordable Cancer and Diabetes Screening Launched at Hallett Hospital, Kanpur
GSVM Medical College Kanpur launches affordable cancer markers, insulin, and hormonal tests at Hallett Hospital for poor patients.
Kanpur : In a major relief for economically disadvantaged patients, the GSVM Medical College has officially commenced advanced diagnostic services at Lala Lajpat Rai (Hallett) Hospital. This initiative, spearheaded by Principal Dr. Sanjay Kala, aims to provide expensive life-saving tests at highly subsidized rates, ensuring that critical diagnoses are no longer a financial burden.
These high-end investigations, which typically cost a fortune at private laboratories, will now allow doctors to detect conditions like cancer, hormonal imbalances, and diabetes with surgical precision.
According to Dr. Lubna Khan, Head of the Pathology Department, the newly introduced Cancer Markers are a game-changer. These tests detect specific chemicals in the blood released by malignant cells.
Gastrointestinal & Gallbladder: Tests like CA 125 and CA 19.9 will help identify cancers of the intestines and gallbladder.
Infertility & Women's Health: Advanced screenings for LH, FSH, Prolactin, and Beta HCG will help diagnose hormonal issues and causes of infertility in women.
Diabetes Management: The introduction of Insulin level testing will allow doctors to determine if a patient’s diabetes is caused by low insulin production or insulin resistance in tissues, leading to more targeted treatments.
Full List of Newly Available Tests:
The pathology lab is now equipped to perform a wide array of tests including CEA, Lipase, Ferritin (for infections), Iron profile, PSA (Prostate screening), and CA 19.9.
"Our goal is to provide accurate and affordable diagnostics. While these tests are prohibitively expensive in private labs, they are now accessible to every section of society at Hallett Hospital," stated Dr. Lubna Khan.
This upgrade is expected to significantly reduce the waiting time for critical reports and improve the overall survival rate for cancer patients in the region by facilitating early detection.
