GSVM Medical College Champions Cervical Cancer Awareness; 10,000 Screenings Completed
GSVM Medical College holds cervical cancer seminar, highlighting HPV vaccines and Pap Smears to boost women’s health and early detection.
Bithur : In a proactive move toward women's health, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at GSVM Medical College organized a comprehensive seminar focused on the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. Chaired by Head of Department Dr. Renu Gupta, the event served as a critical platform for educating nursing staff and healthcare workers.
The Power of Prevention: HPV Vaccination
During the session, Dr. Renu Gupta emphasized that the HPV vaccine is the primary shield against cervical cancer, boasting a 90% efficacy rate. She detailed the recommended dosage schedules:
Ages 9–14: Two doses administered at a six-month interval.
Ages 15–26 (Unmarried): A three-dose regimen.
In an inspiring show of leadership, many attending sisters underwent immediate screening and registered their daughters for the vaccination drive.
Screening and Early Detection
Dr. Neena Gupta highlighted the life-saving potential of regular Pap Smear tests, recommending them every three years for women over 25. The GSVM facility offers these screenings at nominal rates. Over the past three and a half years, the department has screened approximately 10,000 patients, successfully identifying and treating several cases in their earliest, most curable stages.
Collaborative Healthcare Efforts
The event featured distinguished guest Dr. Richa Giri (Vice Principal), who motivated the staff to prioritize personal health as a prerequisite for patient care. The program was expertly coordinated by a team of senior doctors, including Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dr. Urooj Jahan, and Dr. Rashmi Yadav, with participation from various department heads like Dr. Lubna Khan (Pathology).
