India-Nepal Strengthen Ties with Seven New High-Impact Development Projects
India grants NPR 473 million for seven new development projects in Nepal, focusing on education, health, and agriculture sectors
Kathmandu : In a significant boost to bilateral cooperation, India and Nepal have officially inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to launch seven new High-Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs). These initiatives, valued at approximately NPR 473 million, will be funded entirely through grant assistance from the Government of India.
The projects are strategically designed to bolster three critical pillars of Nepal's rural infrastructure: Education, Health, and Agriculture.
Key Project Highlights:
- Agriculture: Construction of advanced cold storage facilities in the Navalpur and Terhathum districts to help local farmers reduce post-harvest losses.
- Education: Development of new school buildings, hostels, and canteen facilities across Mustang, Kailali, Dolpa, and Banke districts.
- Healthcare: Establishment of a dedicated maternity center in the Rautahat district to improve maternal and neonatal care.
These projects will be executed through local government bodies, ensuring that the benefits reach the grassroots level directly.
Since 2003, India has initiated a total of 598 HICDPs across Nepal. Out of these, 506 projects—spanning drinking water, connectivity, and sanitation—have already been completed, covering all seven provinces of the Himalayan nation.
According to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, this move aligns with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy. By prioritizing infrastructure that impacts daily lives, India aims to support Nepal’s long-term goals of sustainable growth and social development.
