Former Judge Giribala Singh and Husband Samarth Singh Sent to CBI Remand
Bhopal court sends Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh to CBI custody till June 2 in Twisha Sharma dowry death case.
New Delhi : In a case that has gripped the nation, the Twisha Sharma dowry death investigation reached a dramatic new chapter on Friday as a Bhopal district court handed over mother-in-law Giribala Singh — a retired district judge — and husband Samarth Singh to five-day CBI custody till June 2, marking one of the most significant legal turning points in the emotionally charged case.
The Bhopal district court's Special Judge Shobhana Bhalave approved the Central Bureau of Investigation's plea seeking five days' custodial remand of former judge Giribala Singh, while also extending Samarth Singh's remand as investigators work to piece together the full sequence of events and examine allegations raised by Twisha Sharma's family.
The CBI took over the probe into the death of former model-actor Twisha Sharma, who was allegedly found hanging at her marital home on May 12, and re-registered the Madhya Pradesh police FIR naming Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused.
The agency accused Twisha Sharma's in-laws of dowry harassment, forcing her to terminate a pregnancy, and attempting to tamper with evidence. Investigators also pointed out that injuries found on Twisha's body remained unexplained — noting that a medical query report confirmed the injuries could not have occurred while the body was being removed from the ligature.
WhatsApp chats recovered during the investigation revealed that Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh had doubted Twisha's character after she became pregnant, and the CBI alleged she was later forced to undergo an abortion on claims the child belonged to someone else.
Giribala Singh's arrest came after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail previously granted to her by a Bhopal sessions court. Before her arrest, CBI officials questioned her for nearly seven hours at her residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal.
As the CBI tightens its grip, the case continues to raise uncomfortable questions about privilege, power, and justice — reminding India that no robe of authority can shield the guilty from accountability.
