Allahabad University Celebrates 138th Foundation Day with Honors and Cultural Performances
Allahabad University’s 138th Foundation Day featured the conferral of an honorary title to Padma Shri Malini Awasthi and cultural performances.

During the festivities, renowned folk singer Padma Shri Malini Awasthi was awarded the honorary title of "Honorary Koja" by Prof. Sangeeta Srivastava, recognizing her contributions to promoting Indian folk culture internationally. In her address, Prof. Srivastava congratulated the faculty and staff of the university, reflecting on its historical journey and the various milestones achieved since its inception.
Prof. Srivastava elaborated on the university's significant role in shaping India's leadership, mentioning that it has produced numerous Prime Ministers, Presidents, Chief Ministers, and judges in the Supreme and High Courts. She emphasized the university's contribution to academia and literature, highlighting the achievements made over the past five years, including the appointment of 370 faculty members and 611 non-teaching staff.
The Vice-Chancellor also shared updates on the implementation of the new education policy, which has introduced a four-year degree program, and the university's improved ranking in the NIRF. She noted that students from 26 states across India, including regions as far as Dadra and Nagar Haveli to Delhi, are currently enrolled at the university.
In her remarks, Malini Awasthi expressed pride in receiving the honorary title from Allahabad University, stating that her connection to literature has always been profound. She fondly recalled her experiences in Prayagraj and acknowledged the cultural heritage that has shaped her music.
The event featured a captivating live performance by Awasthi, who mesmerized the audience with her rendition of Awadhi folk songs, making the evening an unforgettable experience. The program was conducted by Prof. Jaya Kapoor and Dr. Shlesh Gautam, who also recited a poignant poem focused on daughters, further enriching the cultural atmosphere of the celebration. The ceremony was attended by various faculty heads, department chairs, faculty, and staff, marking a significant milestone in the university's illustrious history.
