India to launch 'smart border' project along Pakistan, Bangladesh frontiers to curb infiltration: Amit Shah
Amit Shah announces a high-tech "Smart Border" project covering 6,000 km along Pakistan and Bangladesh frontiers to curb infiltration.
In a major move to fortify national security, the Union Home Minister announced that India will launch a comprehensive "Smart Border" project within the next year. The initiative aims to build an impenetrable security grid along the 6,000-kilometer frontiers sharing borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Delivering an address at a key memorial lecture organized by border security officials in New Delhi, the Home Minister emphasized that the primary objective of this project is to permanently curb illegal infiltration and defeat external conspiracies aimed at altering the demographic structure of India's border regions.
The upcoming high-tech grid will heavily rely on modern, advanced surveillance technology rather than traditional physical barriers alone. The Union Home Ministry plans to deploy a sophisticated network of thermal imaging cameras, high-altitude drones, ground-based radar systems, and smart fencing. These technologies will integrate into a unified commanding layout to track and neutralize infiltration attempts in real time, even under hazardous weather conditions.
Coinciding with the 60th raising year of the border security forces, the Home Minister reiterated the Central Government’s absolute zero-tolerance policy against cross-border crimes. He stated that the Center is working closely with the state governments of Assam, Tripura, and West Bengal to streamline the technical transition. A high-level coordination meeting with the Chief Ministers of these states is scheduled soon to review regional vulnerabilities.
The Home Minister assured security troops that the modernization drive would fully equip them to face asymmetric, technology-driven threats along sensitive terrains. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government's legal stance on illegal immigrants, asserting that every infiltrator would be identified and deported according to federal law to protect the country's sovereign interests.
