National Silk Expo Opens at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan

Lucknow : As the festive season approaches, fashion enthusiasts and shoppers in Lucknow are flocking to the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar. The National Silk Expo, organized by the Weavers and Handicrafts Development Foundation, has kicked off with immense enthusiasm, drawing large crowds eager to explore India’s rich textile heritage.

Running from August 1 to August 6, this six-day event features over 150 master weavers and traditional artisans from across the country. Designed with upcoming celebrations like Raksha Bandhan in mind, the exhibition offers an exclusive showcase of handloom, authentic silk sarees, designer suits, and fine ethnic wear under one roof.

Highlights of the Expo
The event boasts a vast collection of iconic regional weaves, including:

• Pure Silks: Banarasi, Kanjeevaram, Bhagalpuri, Paithani, Maheshwari, Chanderi, Tussar, and Munga.
• Modern Fabrics: Premium Crepe, Georgette, and Uppada sarees.
• Ethnic Lifestyle: Dress materials, handloom home items, fashion jewelry, handcrafted bags, and traditional accessories.

To add to the festive spirit, several stalls are offering exclusive discounts of up to 50% on selected handcrafted items.

Promoting Artisans & 'Vocal for Local'
Speaking about the initiative, Jayas Kumar Gupta, Secretary of the Weavers and Handicrafts Development Foundation, emphasized that the expo serves as a direct bridge between traditional artisans and buyers.

"Our mission is to promote Indian handloom and traditional weaving techniques while ensuring customers get high-quality, authentic products at reasonable prices," Gupta stated.

He further urged the residents of Lucknow to visit the expo with their families to support local artisans and bolster the national 'Vocal for Local' movement.
