Himachal Man Duped of ₹8 Lakh in Singapore Job Scam; Fraud Case Registered Against Three
A resident of Mubarakpur, Himachal Pradesh, was cheated of ₹8 lakh by a fake immigration agency promising a Singapore work visa and salary, leading Una Police to book three Haryana-based suspects.
UNA (Himachal Pradesh) : A fraud case has been registered in the Amb police station of Himachal Pradesh's Una district after a local man was allegedly swindled out of nearly ₹8 lakh under the pretext of securing a job and a two-year work visa in Singapore.
According to the police, the victim, Ram Singh, a resident of Mubarakpur, filed a complaint stating that he came across an advertisement for an immigration agency on social media in January 2026. Upon contacting the representatives—identified as Poonam, Deepak, and Riyaz from Rohtak, Haryana—he was promised employment in Singapore. The suspects initially demanded processing fees and token money, eventually extracting approximately ₹8 lakh across multiple bank account transfers by claiming his visa had been approved.
The scammers issued him a fraudulent In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, promising a monthly salary of 6,300 Singapore Dollars at a local firm. Trusting the documentation, the victim purchased a flight ticket at his own expense and arrived in Singapore on March 15, 2026. However, upon arrival, no work permit was issued, and he received an official email from Singapore's immigration authorities directing him to leave the country within the stipulated timeframe. Further inquiry revealed that the company mentioned in his appointment letter did not exist.
After returning to India empty-handed, the victim attempted to recover his money, but the accused severed all communication. Following his formal complaint, Una Police launched an investigation into the suspect network.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Una, Sachin Hiramath, confirmed that a case has been registered at Amb police station. He stated that law enforcement is currently scrutinizing financial transactions and digital evidence to take strict action against the perpetrators.
