Election Commission Extends Delhi Special Intensive Revision Timeline Pushing Final Rolls

New Delhi: In a major administrative adjustment to ensure the absolute precision of the voter registry, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially extended the timeline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the national capital. Following a formal request from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the poll panel has pushed back the key publication dates for both the draft electoral list and the final voter rolls.

The primary catalyst for this timeline extension is the slow pace of data digitization. While Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have successfully covered ground—distributing physical enumeration forms to over 99% of Delhi's 1.45 crore electorate—only about 15% of those collected forms have been completely digitized into the centralized network. Additionally, more than 2.2 lakh online enumeration forms are currently awaiting physical field verification by ground personnel.

Revised Electoral Revision Schedule:Door-to-Door Verification: The ongoing house-to-house verification drive by BLOs, which commenced on June 30, has been extended until August 8.  Draft Electoral Roll: The much-anticipated draft electoral list will now be officially published on August 17.

Claims and Objections: Citizens looking to rectify errors or register new additions can file claims from August 17 through September 16.  Final Roll Publication: Following the complete disposal of public grievances by October 15, the final, updated electoral roll will be published on October 19.  Election officials noted that this 12-day administrative buffer will significantly reduce the burden on ground-level staff. The extended window guarantees thorough field checks, eliminates duplication, and ensures that no eligible voter is left out of the capital's final legislative lists.
