Delhi Metro Closes Sixteen Central Stations Temporarily Due To Heightened Capital Security Measures Today

New Delhi : The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suspended entry and exit operations across 16 major stations in central Delhi on Wednesday, citing security directives issued by law enforcement agencies amid ongoing demonstrations near Jantar Mantar and the Parliament complex.

According to official updates issued by the DMRC, entry and exit gates have been shut till further notice at Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. However, transit authorities clarified that passenger interchange facilities remain operational at major junction nodes, including Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat, to minimize network disruptions for cross-city commuters.

The precautionary closures were enforced following heightened security measures by Delhi Police and paramilitary forces in response to the ongoing protest movement demanding education sector reforms. Heavy police barricading and multi-layered security deployment across the New Delhi district led to strict crowd management measures at sensitive transport hubs surrounding government administrative zones.

The sudden closure of key central hubs triggered widespread commuting delays during peak business hours, leaving hundreds of office workers stranded outside restricted station gates and causing congestion on nearby arterial roads. Police personnel and security officers deployed at major transit points instructed passengers to utilize alternate surface transport routes or unimpacted peripheral metro stations.

Transit officials maintained that normal service operations will resume across all affected lines as soon as security clearances are issued by law enforcement authorities. In the interim, passengers have been advised to monitor real-time service advisories via official DMRC communication channels before planning central city travel.
