Prayagraj : Extending the 77th Republic Day celebrations into the sporting arena, St. Joseph’s College (SJC) hosted its traditional Annual Friendly Cricket Match. The high-stakes encounter saw the SJC Staff Team face off against the Old Boys’ Association (OBA) Team in a display of skill, nostalgia, and institutional camaraderie.
Batting first, the SJC Staff Team, led by Mr. N.B. Lawrence, set a formidable target of 266 runs. The OBA Team, captained by Mr. Sanjay Khadduja, chased the total with vigor, but the Staff Team’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured they defended the target successfully to claim the trophy.
The match was defined by standout individual performances. Mohammad Abdul Rehman was named the 'Best Batsman' for his explosive innings, while Mohammad Azhar Usmani dominated the field, earning both 'Best Bowler' and the coveted 'Man of the Match' title for his stellar all-round contribution.
The atmosphere at the college ground was electric, amplified by the witty and insightful live commentary of Dr. Vishnu Deb and Mr. Tyrone Albert. The event served as a perfect conclusion to the Republic Day festivities, reinforcing the lifelong bond between the college faculty and its distinguished alumni.
