Washington D.C. : Strengthening the "Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri concluded a high-profile visit to Washington D.C. (April 8–10), holding pivotal meetings with top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and FBI Director Kash Patel. The visit set the stage for an intensified diplomatic calendar, with the announcement that Secretary Rubio will travel to India next month.

In a productive session at the White House, Misri and Rubio discussed critical pillars of the bilateral relationship. U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, confirmed that the talks focused on:

  • Trade & Technology: Expanding commercial ties and supply chain resilience.
  • Critical Minerals: Securing essential resources for the green energy transition.
  • Defense & Quad: Strengthening security cooperation and the Quad framework in the Indo-Pacific.

Foreign Secretary Misri also held a significant meeting with FBI Chief Kash Patel. The discussions centered on enhancing intelligence sharing and joint efforts to combat:

  • Terrorism: Disrupting global terror networks.
  • Organized Crime: Tackling transnational criminal syndicates.
  • Narcotics: Strengthening measures against international drug trafficking.

Misri’s itinerary included a stop at the Pentagon to meet Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby, focusing on the security architecture of the Indo-Pacific. He also consulted with Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker on pressing international conflicts.

Reflecting on the visit, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that Misri engaged with D.C.’s strategic community to navigate the impacts of current geopolitics on global energy and food security. This visit follows EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar’s February 2026 trip, maintaining the steady tempo of high-level engagement between the world’s two largest democracies.
