Eight Members Of A Gurugram Family Visiting Ailing Patriarch Die In Delhi Hotel Fire
A devastating fire at a Malviya Nagar hotel claims the lives of eight family members visiting their hospitalized patriarch.
New Delhi:What was meant to be a supportive family gathering around an ailing elder turned into an unimaginable catastrophe on Wednesday. Eight members of an extended family from Gurugram lost their lives when a massive fire tore through Flourish Stay B&B, a multi-story hotel facility in South Delhi's congested Malviya Nagar area.
The victims had travelled to the capital to be near their patriarch, Radheshayam Aggarwal, an elderly man in his late 70s who is currently battling a severe lung infection in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of nearby Max Hospital in Saket.
To ensure constant proximity to the hospital, his son, Vivek Aggarwal, a chartered accountant, had booked rooms on the first floor of the ill-fated establishment for the immediate family and visiting relatives. Tragedy struck at around 8:30 AM when a fire broke out on the ground floor and quickly engulfed the narrow structure.
Trapped by thick smoke, a lack of ventilation, and a sealed exit route, eight members across two generations—including Vivek, his wife Tarjni, their two young daughters, his elderly mother, and three extended family members—succumbed to smoke inhalation and burn injuries before they could escape.
In a cruel twist of fate, the elderly patriarch remains under heavy sedation in the hospital, completely unaware that his entire immediate support system was wiped out just 500 meters away. Relatives moving between mortuaries and the hospital expressed profound grief and anger over severe safety lapses at the hotel, which was allegedly operating 25 rooms despite being licensed for only six. Authorities have registered a criminal case against the property owners for building violations as a high-level probe into the disaster begins.
