Delhi Gets Respite From Heat as IMD Sounds Rain Alert
Delhi receives refreshing morning rainfall as IMD issues alerts forecasting further thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across the capital.
New Delhi: Providing much-needed relief to residents, light morning showers lashed several parts of the national capital on Monday, breaking a prolonged spell of sweltering heat and humidity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for the region, forecasting intensified thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging between forty to fifty kilometers per hour later in the afternoon and evening.
The sudden shift in weather patterns brought the maximum temperature down to 38.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, settling nearly one and a half notches below the seasonal average. On Monday, the mercury dropped further during the morning wet spell, bringing a cool breeze across Delhi-NCR. According to meteorologists, the transient weather pattern is driven by a fresh western disturbance interacting with lower-level easterly winds, which will trigger sustained moisture over northwestern India.
The weather bureau has advised commuters to remain cautious, warning that sudden storm developments could result in localized traffic disruptions, minor waterlogging in low-lying roads, and reduced visibility. Residents have been urged to stay indoors during active lightning intervals and avoid standing near temporary structures or under trees.Despite the rain-induced cooling, Delhi's air quality remained manageable, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording the daily Air Quality Index (AQI) well within the "moderate" category at 147. Neighboring satellite cities, including Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad, also recorded similar pleasant weather over the last twenty-four hours.
Looking ahead, the meteorological department expects partly cloudy skies to persist throughout the week, keeping excessive heatwave conditions at bay as the seasonal monsoon wind system continues its steady advance across central and northern India.
