Delhi Police Launches Weekly Jan Sunwai at Every Station

New Delhi: In a major move to streamline grievance redressal and foster public-centric policing, the Delhi Police will launch a weekly public outreach initiative titled 'Thana Divas-Jan Sunwai' across all police stations in the national capital starting next week.

The comprehensive order was issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha following direct instructions from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu to establish accessible and transparent interaction between citizens and law enforcement.

According to the official circular, the public hearings will be organized every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The interactive sessions are designed to serve as an open platform where common citizens can freely present their complaints, seek immediate assistance, share feedback, or flag local public safety issues directly on the ground.

To guarantee maximum institutional accountability and prompt action, senior supervisory officers—ranging from Special Commissioners and Joint Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners of Police—will attend these weekly hearings on a rotational basis.  The directive explicitly states that every visitor must be heard, regardless of whether their grievance has been previously logged on the online Integrated Complaint Management System (ICMS).

All fresh complaints accepted during the sessions will subsequently be uploaded to the centralized portal for systemic tracking. Station House Officers (SHOs) have been instructed to arrange comfortable seating, assistance desks, and a highly welcoming, citizen-friendly atmosphere at their respective stations.

The order strictly warns that any delay, administrative negligence, or casual handling of grievances will be treated as a serious disciplinary lapse. District DCPs have been tasked with monitoring the disposal rates closely and publicizing the initiative via social media, notice boards, and local Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to optimize community participation. Fortnightly progress reports mapping resolved and pending cases must be submitted to the Vigilance Division every Monday.
