Delhi Government To Launch Mahila Samriddhi Yojana Offering Monthly Cash Assistance
The Delhi government is set to launch the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, providing 2,500 rupees monthly to eligible women from August 28.
New Delhi : In a major move toward women's financial empowerment, the Delhi government is preparing to officially launch its highly anticipated "Mahila Samriddhi Yojana" on August 28, matching the celebratory occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The flagship welfare program aims to provide direct financial assistance of 2,500 rupees every month to economically weaker women residing in the national capital.'
The government has earmarked a massive budget of 5,110 crore rupees for the fiscal year 2026-27 to support the initiative. According to administrative sources, the scheme is expected to benefit roughly 20 to 22 lakh women across the city. The registration process will be conducted entirely through a dedicated online portal developed by the IT department, utilizing advanced Aadhaar-based e-KYC tech to ensure seamless cash disbursement via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
To qualify for the monthly allowance, applicants must be permanent residents of Delhi aged between 21 and 60 years. The proposed household income ceiling for eligible beneficiaries is capped between 2.5 lakh and 3 lakh rupees annually. Official guidelines indicate that women holding active local ration cards will receive high priority during the registration phase because their background details have already cleared regulatory checks.
However, strict exclusion criteria apply to maintain transparency. Women who are employed in government sectors, registered income-tax payers, recipients of other state or central pensions, and families that own a four-wheeled motor vehicle are completely barred from enrolling under the scheme. A high-level review committee chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is putting the final touches on operational guidelines. Officials also revealed that discussions are underway to possibly rename the initiative to "Delhi Laxmi Yojana" to give it a distinct local identity before its grand rollout next month.
