Amit Shah And Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launch Massive Environmental Initiatives

New Delhi  : In a massive joint push to combat air pollution and expand the national capital’s green cover, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched the ambitious "Mission 70 Lakh Plantation" campaign. Alongside this extensive eco-restoration drive, the leaders flagged off a fleet of 300 state-of-the-art electric buses to bolster Delhi’s eco-friendly public transit network.

The mega green campaign, rolled out under the prime minister's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" national initiative, aims to fundamentally rejuvenate the degraded parts of the Delhi Ridge area. Spanning across 6,300 hectares of vital green space, the project plans to replace non-native, ecologically unfavorable species like Babul with robust, century-living native trees including Peepal, Banyan, Neem, Arjun, and Jamun. "Vriksh Raths" have been introduced to distribute free saplings and allow citizens to seamlessly book plantation slots.  Simultaneously, the addition of 300 new e-buses brings a major upgrade to the city's green mobility blueprint. The Union Home Minister also virtually inaugurated three newly built, high-tech bus depots and 40 automated vehicle testing centers designed to replace error-prone manual testing and regulate vehicular emissions.

"Development without a commitment to environmental equilibrium is entirely counterproductive," Home Minister Amit Shah remarked during the joint event, urging residents to turn the campaign into a public movement.  Echoing these views, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the capital can no longer treat poor air quality as an unchangeable reality.

She highlighted that the newly introduced e-buses, working alongside the recently approved Delhi EV Policy 2026, will critically lower carbon footprints. Additionally, the dignitaries laid the foundation stone for a sophisticated, high-security radial prison spread across 11 acres in Narela.
