Aamir Khan Rejects Love Jihad Allegations Stating Wives Never Converted Religion

Mumbai: Breaking his silence over intense social media trolling and political backlash, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has firmly rejected allegations branding him the "brand ambassador of love jihad". The actor's remarks follow his intimate July 5, 2026, civil wedding to longtime partner Gauri Spratt, which sparked sharp criticism from both political circles and a Muslim cleric.

Responding to trolls who baselessly claimed he exclusively marries and converts Hindu women, Aamir clarified that his current wife is Christian. Furthermore, he emphasized that none of his partners have ever changed their faith.  

"The truth is that ours is a very inclusive family. Both my sisters are married to Hindus; my daughter is also married to a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian," Aamir stated in an interview with Rediff. Dismissing the conversion claims, he added, "Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion, as we had civil marriages. Gauri is not even Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practicing Christian at that.

Life is getting more comical as time passes."  The controversy escalated when Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane labeled the interfaith union "love jihad," while Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Ibrahim Hussain issued a fatwa, declaring the marriage impermissible under his interpretation of Sharia law because Gauri did not convert to Islam.

 By highlighting that his legal unions were registered under the Special Marriage Act, Aamir reiterated that personal relationships in his household are built on mutual respect rather than religious assimilation. The actor was previously married to Reena Dutta (1986–2002) and filmmaker Kiran Rao (2005–2021).
