BJP’s Rajendra Rana Demands Stricter Anti-Drug Measures And Dedicated NCB In Himachal
BJP leader Rajendra Rana urges the Himachal government to adopt national anti-drug roadmaps and establish a dedicated NCB unit.
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and former MLA Rajendra Rana has intensified pressure on the Himachal Pradesh government, calling for a more robust and institutionalized approach to combat the state’s escalating drug menace. Rana has formally urged the state administration to adopt the Central Government’s "Nasha Mukt Bharat-2029" (Drug-Free India) roadmap, emphasizing that current efforts require greater technological integration and inter-state coordination.A core demand put forward by the BJP leader is the establishment of a specialized regional unit or office of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) within Himachal Pradesh.
Rana argued that a permanent and strong NCB presence is essential to dismantle interstate drug networks that continue to exploit the state’s borders. He further asserted that legislative action alone is insufficient; instead, he advocated for a multi-stakeholder strategy involving families, educational institutions, and civil society to turn the fight against drugs into a mass movement.Rana’s remarks come amidst a politically charged atmosphere regarding the state's law and order situation.
He has specifically called for transparent, impartial investigations into any allegations involving police or administrative officials in narcotics cases, stressing that public trust in the enforcement machinery is paramount.
The state government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has countered that it is already implementing a "decisive crackdown" on drug traffickers, citing high volumes of preventive detentions under the PIT-NDPS Act and the inauguration of specialized rehabilitation centers like 'Nav Jeevan'. However, with Rana’s vocal push for central intervention and advanced surveillance, the discourse surrounding Himachal’s drug policy is expected to remain a significant point of contention leading up to future legislative sessions.
