Kinnaur Kailash Yatra 2026 Begins: Daily Cap Set at 375 Pilgrims, Fitness Proof and Green Tax Mandatory
The holy Kinnaur Kailash Yatra has officially commenced in Himachal Pradesh, operating under strict daily pilgrim quotas, compulsory medical fitness checks, and a ₹200 green tax to ensure safety in high-altitude terrain.
Shimla : The annual pilgrimage to Kinnaur Kailash, a revered site located at an altitude of 19,000 feet in Himachal Pradesh, officially commenced on Thursday. The pilgrimage is scheduled to run through August 10, with 115 devotees setting off on the challenging trek on opening day.
In light of recent natural disasters across the region, local authorities have instituted strict registration and safety protocols. According to SDM Kalpa and Pilgrimage Committee Chairman Praveen Bhardwaj, a maximum of 375 pilgrims will be permitted to embark on the trek each day. This daily quota is divided into 175 online registrations, 125 offline registrations, and 75 slots allocated for the Adventure Tour Operators Association (ATOA).
All pilgrims must submit a medical fitness certificate issued within the last 15 days by a recognized medical officer. Devotees who do not possess a prior certificate can undergo a health checkup at the dedicated medical camp near the Primary Health Center (PHC) Tangling. Additionally, every pilgrim is required to submit a formal undertaking and pay a green tax of ₹200 at the Tangling registration counter to receive their final entry token.
Online slots for the first phase of the yatra (July 30 to August 4) opened earlier this week. Depending on weather conditions, the online registration portal will reopen on August 2 at 10:00 AM to accept applications for the August 5–10 window.
District officials have advised all trekkers to travel in groups, stick strictly to designated trails, avoid night trekking, and carry essential gear including thermal wear, raincoats, sturdy boots, and basic medical supplies.
