Delhi Newlywed Dies In Fall From Flat As Family Alleges Dowry Murder

New Delhi : A 28-year-old newlywed woman died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly falling from the third floor of an NDMC residential complex in south Delhi’s Lodhi Colony area. The tragic incident, which occurred at Palika Kunj, has led the victim’s family to accuse her husband and in-laws of severe physical assault, dowry harassment, and murder.

 The deceased, identified as Akriti, was a resident of Pushp Vihar and worked as a sales executive at a private healthcare firm in Chhatarpur. She had married her husband, Arastu Sikka, on April 24, 2026, in a love-cum-arranged alliance.

According to police officials, local residents found Akriti critically injured on the ground outside the residential block and immediately alerted authorities. She was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre, where doctors declared her brought dead.

 Akriti's family has vehemently rejected the possibility of suicide, asserting that she was mentally resilient and responsible. Her brother and uncle alleged that her in-laws began demanding a car and ₹10 lakh in cash shortly after the wedding.

They further claimed that the husband repeatedly assaulted Akriti and forced her to hand over her entire salary, creating friction when she attempted to financially support her widowed mother.  

Because the death occurred within seven years of marriage, Delhi Police have initiated mandatory inquest proceedings under the supervision of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Investigators subsequently arrested the husband on charges of dowry harassment. 

Forensic teams are currently examining the third-floor corridor where Akriti's phone, bag, and slippers were recovered, while CCTV footage from the locality is being reviewed to reconstruct her final movements before the fatal fall.
