State Conducts Mega Mock Drill To Boost Disaster Preparedness Response
A massive state-wide mock exercise evaluated multi-agency response times and strengthened disaster management protocols across vulnerable regional zones.
Shimla: In a major initiative to evaluate institutional readiness, the state government, in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), successfully executed a comprehensive, state-wide mega mock exercise today. The simulated drill aimed to test the efficiency of response mechanisms, communication channels, and inter-agency coordination during major natural disasters.
The extensive exercise simulated high-intensity earthquake scenarios and subsequent landslide disruptions simultaneously across all twelve districts. To create a realistic emergency environment, the state emergency operations center triggered sirens, prompting immediate activation of the Incident Response System (IRS) at both state and district headquarters.
Key stakeholders—including the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, local police, fire services, and health departments—were deployed instantly to designated high-risk impact sites. Teams practiced critical search and rescue operations, set up emergency medical camps, cleared road blockages, and re-established collapsed communication networks using advanced satellite technology.
Reviewing the overall execution, senior administrative officials praised the swift coordination and praised the response teams for hitting their targets within the strict golden-hour timeframe. The drill successfully identified minor infrastructural gaps, particularly in remote satellite communications, which officials promised to rectify immediately.
"Regularly practicing these large-scale simulations ensures that our emergency personnel remain sharp, vigilant, and highly synchronized," stated the State Disaster Management Commissioner during the debriefing session. Officials added that the insights gained from this mega exercise will be utilized to update local disaster management blueprints, ultimately minimizing the loss of life and property during real-world crises.
