Chief Minister to approach Centre over projects not in Himachal’s interest

Shimla: Highlighting a firm stance on state sovereignty and resource management, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the provincial government is preparing to formally approach the Central Government regarding specific developmental frameworks that do not align with the long-term interests of Himachal Pradesh. Speaking to media persons after a high-level review meeting, the CM emphasized that the state’s ecological balance, financial equity, and public welfare cannot be compromised for aggressive regional expansions.

The Chief Minister noted that while infrastructure growth remains a top priority, certain structural models—particularly those concerning extensive environmental disruptions or unfavorable fiscal distributions—require a thorough reassessment. The state cabinet is currently compiling a comprehensive memorandum outlining these local concerns to present directly to Union ministries in New Delhi.

"Our state’s natural resources and public interests must be protected at all costs. We are reviewing all large-scale proposals and will firmly present our objective evaluation before the Central Government to ensure a fair and sustainable resolution," the Chief Minister stated.

The government intends to seek a collaborative dialogue to recalibrate project guidelines, aiming for a balanced approach that promotes sustainable hill-state development without undermining local rights. Key administrative departments have been directed to draft technical reports to back the state's upcoming representation to the Union government. Meanwhile, opposition lines are closely monitoring the developments, as this move signals a crucial point of negotiation between the state and central authorities over regional economic planning.
