Heavy Rain Threat Looms Over Himachal; High Alert Issued for Landslides and Flash Floods

Shimla : Monsoon activity in Himachal Pradesh is set to intensify significantly over the next five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts from July 29 to August 2, urging residents and travelers to remain on high alert.

According to the weather forecast, the districts of Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi are expected to bear the brunt of the downpours. Meanwhile, heavy showers are also predicted for parts of Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti. Continuous rainfall has escalated the risk of landslides, flash floods, waterlogging, and road blockages across hilly terrains.

Monsoon rains picked up momentum over the past 24 hours, recording substantial rainfall across various locations:

• Palampur (Kangra): 130 mm (Highest in the state)
• Jogindernagar (Mandi): 110 mm
• Kangra Aero Station: 100 mm
• Dharamshala AWS: 80 mm
• Rampur Bushahr (Shimla): 50 mm
• Jot & Chowari (Chamba): 40 mm each
• Manali (Kullu) & Sarahan (Shimla): 30 mm each

Advisory Issued by Authorities
Official Warning: Avoid non-essential travel in mountainous and land-slide prone zones. Maintain a safe distance from rivers, rivulets, and streams as water levels can swell abruptly.

State authorities and the IMD have urged commuters to strictly follow traffic updates, observe speed limits on slick roads, and monitor local weather bulletins continuously.
