Delhi Police Constable Accused Of Killing Wife Found Dead In Mayur Vihar
Absconding Delhi Police constable accused of shooting his wife dead is found dead from an apparent suicide in Mayur Vihar.
New Delhi : A dramatic 40-hour police manhunt culminated in tragedy when an absconding Delhi Police constable, wanted for the alleged murder of his wife, was found dead inside a parking lot in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-1. Investigators strongly suspect he died by suicide using his own official service weapon.
The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Manish Bhati, was a 2022-batch constable attached to the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) in the East district. Bhati had been on the run since early Monday morning after he allegedly shot his 32-year-old wife, Priyanka, in the chest following a heated argument on a deserted road in Kalyanpuri, located just moments away from their residence.
Passersby discovered Priyanka bleeding heavily on the street and rushed her to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where doctors tragically declared her dead on arrival. Police subsequently scanned local CCTV footage, which captured the intense roadside altercation and Bhati fleeing the scene on his scooter. A murder case was registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Delhi Police immediately deployed five specialized teams, executing multiple tracking raids across the Delhi-NCR region, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. However, the intensive search concluded on Tuesday evening when a patrolling officer was alerted to a motionless body in a parking area behind a luxury hotel in Mayur Vihar.
Bhati was found dead on the spot with a visible gunshot wound to his right temple. His service pistol lay nearby, though his escape scooter remains missing. Initial inquiry indicates that Bhati turned the weapon on himself barely 15 minutes before his body was discovered.
