CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Inaugurates State First Digital Museum At Bantony

Shimla :  Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday evening inaugurated the state's first advanced digital museum at the iconic 140-year-old Bantony Castle complex.

Built at an estimated cost of 8 crore rupees, the high-tech institution seeks to preserve and showcase the state’s profound cultural, historical, and architectural legacy using cutting-edge interactive technology.  Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhu termed the inauguration a historic bridge connecting the state's rich past with future generations.

He noted that the historic colonial-era structure, which previously served as the state's police headquarters, has been successfully retrofitted to host virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), 3D scanning setups, and holographic projection units.

These immersive spaces allow visitors to dynamically explore folk traditions, handicrafts, spiritual milestones, and the contributions of local freedom fighters without requiring physical tour guides.

The exhibits offer a deep look into the evolution of Shimla from a modest hill town to a major colonial summer capital. Special multi-media segments track the development of the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway line, state formation milestones, regional art, and distinctive culinary profiles.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted that the museum aligns with global tourism standards, ensuring domestic and international travelers gain a structured look into local history right upon arrival. To maximize educational reach,

the state announced that admission will remain completely free for all government school students. The initiative marks a significant transition toward modern digital conservation, transforming the preserved castle layout into a primary cultural landmark and landmark research facility.
