Himachal’s Tandi-Kilar Road to Remain Closed on July 30–31 Following Fatal Landslide

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh).  In response to severe monsoon rains and hazardous landslides across Himachal Pradesh, the Lahaul and Spiti district administration has ordered a complete closure of a vital section of the Tandi-Kilar road for all vehicle traffic on July 30 and 31.

The decision comes in the wake of a tragic incident on July 24 near Kadu Nala in Pangi, where massive debris fell from a hillside onto a passing vehicle, claiming the lives of 13 people. The stretch between Rohali and Kadu Nala remains highly unstable and vulnerable to further rockfalls, posing a grave threat to commuters.

To secure the route and prevent further casualties, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), led by Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, issued an official advisory shutting down the Sansari Nala-Kilar-Thirot-Tandi (SKTT) road at kilometer marker 80.900. The temporary two-day shutdown will allow the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the 94 Road Construction Company (RCC) to safely carry out essential debris removal, slope stabilization, and protective structural work without interference.

"According to reports from the Officer Commanding, 94 RCC, the landslide zone near Rohali-Kadu Nala has become extremely sensitive and high-risk," said DC Kiran Bhadana. "Prioritizing public safety during the active monsoon season, BRO personnel will clear the rubble and execute urgent safety repairs. Complete restriction of traffic on July 30 and 31 is necessary to ensure the workforce can operate smoothly and safely."

Authorities emphasized that the road will only reopen once BRO engineers complete the clearance operations and officially certify the stretch as safe for travel. Local residents, tourists, and commercial drivers are strongly urged to defer their travel plans along this route, utilize alternative roads, and strictly follow updates issued by the district administration, local police, and the BRO.
