Two Injured After Boulders And Landslide Debris Crush Car Near Kunihar
Two people were hospitalized in Kunihar after massive boulders and landslide debris crushed a moving vehicle in Solan district.
Solan : Relentless monsoon rains triggered a frightening landslide in the Arki subdivision on Friday morning, causing massive boulders and mountain debris to crash down onto a moving car and leaving two people injured.
The sudden rockfall took place on the Gambharpul-Sarli route, heavily damaging the passing vehicle and briefly bringing regional traffic to a complete standstill. According to local administration officials, an Innova Crysta carrying five passengers was traversing the rain-slicked highway when loose strata from the overarching hillside gave way without warning.
Giant stones and heavy muck directly impacted the vehicle, trapping the occupants inside the mangled frame. Nearby villagers and commuters rushed to the scene to conduct an immediate rescue operation, pulling the victims out of the debris.
Two occupants sustained notable injuries from the impact, including the vehicle's owner, identified as Maher Chand. Emergency teams quickly transported the injured individuals to the Civil Hospital in Kunihar, where they were admitted for urgent medical stabilization and first aid. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported from the scene.
The landslide triggered localized panic and forced the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and local police to temporarily restrict traffic to a single lane as clearance crews worked to remove residual boulders. Solan district has recently recorded over 113 mm of heavy downpours, leading the meteorological department to issue strict warnings regarding active flash floods and heightened landslide risks.
District authorities have actively urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel across vulnerable hilly terrains until weather conditions normalize.
