Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna’s Courtroom Drama 'Ikka' Gets OTT Release Date
Decades after Border, Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna reunite for Netflix's intense legal thriller Ikka, premiering this July
Mumbai: Nearly three decades after sharing the screen in the iconic 1997 war masterpiece Border, powerhouse performers Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna are officially locking horns once again. Netflix India announced on Saturday that their highly anticipated collaborative project, an intense courtroom thriller titled Ikka, is locked to make its exclusive digital debut on July 10, 2026.
Helmed by acclaimed director Siddharth P. Malhotra—fresh off the success of his previous streaming venture Maharaj—the film also marks Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated debut in a Netflix original feature. Ikka is built as a high-stakes, morally complex legal battle where personal histories and clashing ideologies collide.
The narrative revolves around a celebrated and righteous defense lawyer, portrayed by Deol, who is arm-twisted into defending a mysterious murder suspect from his past, played by Akshaye Khanna. This sudden, hostile reunion reopens deeply buried wounds, forcing Deol's character to navigate a treacherous web of deception. To win the case and protect his family from life-altering consequences, he must utilize every aggressive tactic in the book, even if it threatens to dismantle the very legal principles he has stood by his entire career.
The gripping legal drama features a stellar supporting ensemble, including Tillotama Shome as a formidable public prosecutor determined to ensure conviction, and Dia Mirza as a resilient wife struggling to keep her family grounded amid mounting legal uncertainty. The film also stars Sanjeeda Shaikh, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, and Shishir Sharma in pivotal roles.
Expressing his excitement about the project, director Siddharth P. Malhotra shared that Ikka was one of the first scripts he ever wanted to bring to life. He noted that getting Sunny Deol to step back into a black coat—evoking nostalgic memories of his legendary, explosive courtroom turn in Damini—alongside a performer of Akshaye Khanna's caliber, felt like an absolute dream scenario.
