Dharmshala: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated two major urban infrastructure projects in Dharamshala aimed at easing traffic congestion and advancing eco-friendly public transit.
The Chief Minister dedicated the newly redeveloped Fountain Chowk at Kotwali Bazaar and an advanced e-bus charging depot to the public. The Fountain Chowk transformation, executed by Dharamshala Smart City Limited at a budget of ₹70 lakh, focuses on streamlining vehicular flow while preserving local heritage.
To optimize land use and widen the thoroughfare, the central fountain and the statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh were strategically repositioned. Additionally, the historic Ramleela stage area was integrated into a spacious public plaza. The upgraded site boasts traditional local murals, a modern variable messaging system, aesthetic lighting, and comfortable public seating. Simultaneously, CM Sukhu unveiled a state-of-the-art, two-storey E-Bus Charging Depot and Maintenance Centre.
Constructed at the old HRTC workshop premises for ₹11.90 crore, this green facility is a cornerstone of the state's broader clean energy transition. To immediately leverage this infrastructure, the Chief Minister approved three new intra-city e-bus routes to provide efficient, reliable transport options within Dharamshala.
"The redeveloped chowk balances modern urban utility with local identity, ensuring convenience for residents and tourists alike," Sukhu stated. Highlighting the state's green goals, he added that the state-of-the-art e-bus hub will dramatically improve public transport logistics. Similar green charging infrastructure will soon scale across other districts.
The high-profile ceremony saw attendance from Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, and several senior district officials, marking a major milestone for the smart city initiative.DHARAMSHALA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated two major urban infrastructure projects in Dharamshala aimed at easing traffic congestion and advancing eco-friendly public transit.
