Maurya Claims 25-26 SP MPs Poised to Defect From Party

Kanpur : Rocketing the political temperature in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that 25 to 26 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Samajwadi Party (SP) are on the verge of breaking away. Speaking to reporters in Kanpur, the senior BJP leader asserted that the main opposition party is heading toward a massive internal crisis ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.  

Maurya clarified that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not actively trying to engineer a split or lure opposition lawmakers. Instead, he maintained that internal fractures, structural instability, and deep-seated resentment would cause the leaders to sever ties on their own. "We are not breaking them away at all; they will disintegrate automatically due to their internal contradictions," Maurya stated.  

The Deputy Chief Minister launched a scathing attack on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, suggesting that Yadav has completely lost his grip on the party machinery. Maurya attributed the rising discontent within the opposition camp to dynastic politics, institutional corruption, and criminal elements.

Maurya's explosive remarks closely follow claims made by UP Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, who hinted that a rebel group of SP MPs is ready to defect under the leadership of a prominent figure from Ballia.  Reacting sharply to the defection claims, the Samajwadi Party top brass strongly dismissed Maurya's statements as a psychological tactic to boost television ratings.

Senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav hit back, stating that the party remains absolutely unified and that Maurya's speculative remarks are merely intended to divert public attention away from genuine governance failures in the state.
