HP Govt Schools to Remain Open on August 15; Education Department Issues Guidelines for Independence Day

Shimla :  Clarifying expectations around the upcoming national holiday, the Himachal Pradesh Education Department has announced that all government schools across the state will remain open on Independence Day, August 15. Rather than observing a full day off, schools will actively host and participate in Independence Day celebrations marked by patriotic events and official ceremonies.

The Directorate of Higher Education issued detailed directives to all Deputy Directors (Elementary and Higher Education) alongside principals of Senior Secondary Schools, emphasizing that the dignity of the national festival must be upheld with complete honor, discipline, and enthusiasm.

Key Highlights of the Department Directive
Mandated Ceremonies: All state run educational institutions must organize flag-hoisting ceremonies, collective singing of the National Anthem, and patriotic cultural presentations.

• Student Participation: Schools will conduct speech competitions, patriotic musical performances, and educational activities highlighting the sacrifices of freedom fighters to foster national pride among students.
• Official Parade Representation: Active participation from students and teaching staff is required at official Independence Day parades organized at the district, sub-divisional, and tehsil headquarters.
• Advance Preparations: District Deputy Directors have been instructed to disseminate the orders immediately to ensure all logistic arrangements are finalized well ahead of August 15.
• Official Objective: The Education Department stressed that these celebrations aim to deepen patriotism, strengthen national unity, and instill a strong sense of pride and constitutional respect among the state's youth.
