Medanta Lucknow and IMA Ayodhya Spotlight Advanced Stroke and Laser Urology Solutions

Ayodhya : In a major push to upgrade regional healthcare capabilities, Medanta Hospital Lucknow combined forces with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ayodhya to host a high-profile Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminar. Bringing together a massive turnout of community physicians from Ayodhya and surrounding districts, the academic conclave focused on two surging healthcare crises in India: acute brain strokes and the rapid rise of kidney stone disease among young adults.

Opening the neurology segment, Dr. Ratish Juyal, Director of the Department of Neurology at Medanta Hospital Lucknow, delivered a sobering statistic on emergency stroke management.

"Every single minute of delay during an active stroke costs a patient approximately 1.9 million vital brain cells," Dr. Juyal warned.

He emphasized that stroke has become one of the leading causes of long-term disability in India. However, the paradigm is shifting. Dr. Juyal detailed how immediate access to advanced medical interventions like thrombolysis (clot-busting medication administered intravenously) and mechanical thrombectomy can completely halt brain tissue damage, significantly reducing the risk of permanent paralysis and saving lives if executed within the golden medical window.

Shifting the focus to urological health, Dr. Rohit Kapoor, Senior Consultant in the Department of Urology & Kidney Transplant Surgery, revealed that nearly 10 to 12 percent of the Indian population will battle kidney stones in their lifetime. Alarmingly, the demographic is skewing younger due to lifestyle shifts, high sodium intake, and chronic dehydration.

Dr. Kapoor demonstrated how medical tech has evolved away from painful, invasive surgeries toward ultra-modern, minimally invasive alternatives:

  • RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery): A procedure utilizing a flexible ureteroscope passed through natural tracts, completely eliminating external incisions.
  • Laser Lithotripsy: High-precision lasers that disintegrate stubborn stones into fine dust, allowing safe, natural passage.

These advanced modalities offer a drastically reduced recovery curve. Most patients are safely discharged within 24 hours, experiencing minimal pain and resuming standard daily routines almost immediately, while heavily mitigating the risk of long-term renal damage.

Recognizing the hurdles local patients face when traveling to tier-1 cities for specialized treatment, Dr. Rohit Kapoor announced the launch of a regular, monthly outpatient department (OPD) service right in Ayodhya.

Starting immediately, patients can book consultations with Dr. Kapoor on the fourth Saturday of every month across two accessible local hubs:

Location Timing

Deva Hospital

(Devkali, Ayodhya)

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Raj Rajeshwari Hospital

(Naharbagh, Niyawan Road, Ayodhya)

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

IMA Ayodhya President Dr. Ashish Srivastava and Secretary Dr. Nishant Saxena lauded the collaborative academic effort, noting that bridging the gap between local general practitioners and tertiary care experts ultimately elevates the baseline of patient care across the entire region.
