Two Recovered, Two Missing After Four Minors Drown in Yamuna River Tragedy

New Delhi : A tragic incident unfolded near Hiranki village in outer-north Delhi’s Alipur area on Sunday evening, where four minors were swept away by the strong currents of the Yamuna River while bathing. While rescue teams have successfully recovered the bodies of two boys, an intensive search operation for the remaining two is currently underway.

The incident occurred when a group of five minors went to the Yamuna Ghat near Thokar No. 24 around 5:00 PM. According to officials, four of the boys entered the water and were rapidly pulled away by the river's strong current. The fifth boy, who remained on the bank, raised an alarm, alerting locals who attempted to help before rescue services were notified at approximately 7:30 PM.

A joint task force, comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Fire Services, and the local police, initiated a massive search and rescue mission. Search efforts were temporarily suspended late Sunday night due to poor visibility and darkness but resumed at first light on Monday morning.  Local authorities have cordoned off the area and issued strong advisories for residents to avoid venturing into the river, noting that water levels remain dangerous and currents are exceptionally powerful due to the monsoon season. The families of the missing victims remain at the site as authorities continue their efforts to locate the remaining two boys.
