UP Transporters Threaten Statewide Protest Over GST and RTO "Harassment"
UP Transport Association threatens statewide protests against GST harassment and forced GPS rules. Leaders seek Chief Minister's intervention in Kanpur.
Kanpur : The Uttar Pradesh Transport Association has issued a stern warning to the state government, alleging continuous harassment by State GST and RTO officials. During a high-profile public meeting held at the Transport Nagar office, association leaders declared that the "arbitrary" implementation of policies would no longer be tolerated and that they would soon take their grievances directly to the Chief Minister.
Key Points of Contention:
Forced GPS Installation: State President Manish Kataria alleged that the government is forcing transporters to install GPS devices to benefit specific private companies, a move the association vehemently rejects.
GST Vigilance Harassment: Officials claimed that State GST teams are forcibly stopping vehicles on highways without valid cause, disrupting supply chains and harassing drivers despite repeated complaints.
The One-Time Tax Dispute: Transporters expressed open opposition to the mandatory one-time tax, arguing that older vehicle models should be exempt or categorized differently to ensure business viability.
"If our demands are not met immediately, transporters across Uttar Pradesh will unite for a massive protest against the administration," stated Manish Kataria.
The meeting saw the presence of prominent figures including Ajay Kumar Kapoor, Gulshan Chhabra, Arun Vadva, Raju Tiwari, and Rajesh, all of whom echoed the need for a simplified, transparent regulatory procedure to save the transport industry from financial collapse.
