SHUATS Kicks Off Academic Year 2026–27 with Inter-House Basketball Tournament

Prayagraj :  Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) officially launched its sports calendar for the 2026–27 academic session with the inauguration of the Inter-House Basketball Tournament on August 25, 2026, at the university basketball court.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) C.J. Wesley, Chairman of the Athletics Committee and Registrar of SHUATS. Ashish Massey, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Secretary of the Athletics Committee, formally welcomed the Chief Guest with a floral bouquet. Assistant Professor Dr. Achint Terrence also presented a bouquet to honor Ashish Massey.

Addressing the participating athletes, Prof. (Dr.) C.J. Wesley emphasized the value of sportsmanship, discipline, and passion. He shared technical insights into basketball, encouraging students to prioritize participation and personal growth over winning or losing. He commended the ground maintenance team and interacted with the teams before the opening matches.

Women's Category: Yellow House secured a dominant victory over Red House with a final score of 18–0.

Men's Category: Yellow House defeated Red House in a competitive match, finishing 38–28.

The tournament is organized under the direction of Game In-Charge Dr. Achint Terrence, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Education. Media management for the university's overall sports events is being led by Rakesh Sahu.

Key university figures in attendance included Dr. Saumya, Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Majid, Rakesh Sahu, Ashok Singh, Tanveer Ahmad, along with the staff of the Physical Education Department. The tournament aims to foster leadership, teamwork, and healthy athletic competition across the student body.
