Waterlogging in Morhun: Residents Urge DM for Drainage System
Morhun villagers petitioned the Prayagraj District Magistrate for urgent drainage construction after a filled-in pond caused severe waterlogging, threatening public health and blocking village roads.
Prayagraj : Residents of Morhun (Chandapur) village, falling under Municipal Corporation Zone-7 Shantipuram, are enduring extreme hardship due to the complete absence of a functional drainage infrastructure. The situation has severely degraded following the filling in of the local pond—traditionally the primary catchment area for runoff—leaving monsoon rainwater and domestic wastewater with nowhere to drain.
As a result, dirty water now submerges key village roads, lanes, and walkways. On Tuesday, a delegation of dozens of distressed villagers submitted a formal petition to the District Magistrate, seeking immediate administrative intervention to establish a proper drainage network.
Locals expressed grave concerns over the mounting threat of infectious, waterborne diseases caused by stagnant water right outside their doorstep. Daily commutes have been paralyzed, affecting schoolchildren, farmers, and elderly residents alike.
In their joint appeal, villagers urged the District Magistrate to dispatch officials from the concerned department to inspect the ground reality immediately. They demanded the swift initiation of drain construction projects to deliver a permanent solution to the perennial deluge. Prominent community members present during the submission included Ram Anuj Tripathi, Umesh Kumar Tripathi, Shashikant Tripathi, Ram Kailash Pal, Radheshyam Singh, Fashi Ahmad, Mohd. Ahsan, and Maqbool Ahmad, alongside several others.
