Yogi Adityanath Launches Mega Drive to Plant 35 Crore Trees in UP

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially launched the ‘Maha Vriksharopan 2026’ campaign on July 12, marking a major milestone in the state’s environmental conservation efforts. With an ambitious target of planting 35 crore saplings in a single day, the initiative is being held under the central theme, "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" (One Tree in the Name of Mother).

 Launching the campaign from Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister established the 'Holy Triveni Plantation and Development Garden' and emphasized the state’s commitment to expanding its green cover.

Addressing the gathering, CM Adityanath described the plantation drive as a "grand endeavour" to express gratitude to Mother Earth, encouraging citizens, students, and farmers to participate actively to secure a sustainable future for coming generations.  The initiative is part of a broader, long-term strategy to increase Uttar Pradesh's green cover to 15 percent by 2030 and 20 percent by 2047.

To ensure the project's success, the state government has integrated various departments, including Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Agriculture, and Panchayati Raj, to oversee everything from site verification and sapling availability to long-term monitoring and geo-tagging of the planted trees.

 In addition to the massive plantation drive, the Chief Minister distributed certificates to local farmers under the Carbon Credit Scheme, further incentivizing sustainable agricultural practices. Officials noted that the campaign is not merely a government task but a collective public movement, with citizens across the state participating from early morning until evening to contribute to the nation’s environmental health.
