Heavy Rain in Prayagraj , NDRF on action for Rescues
Continuous heavy rainfall over two days caused severe waterlogging in Prayagraj, inundating roads, submerging vehicles, and forcing NDRF-led evacuations in hard-hit residential colonies like Kareli.
Prayagraj : Continuous heavy rainfall driven by an intense monsoon spell over the past forty-eight hours has severely disrupted normal life across Prayagraj. Torrential downpours lasting through late Tuesday evening resulted in severe waterlogging in several major urban centers, including Georgetown, Tikunia, KP Inter College road, Allapur, Mumfordganj, Civil Lines, and Kareli.
The situation turned critical in the low-lying Kareli locality, where an overflowing municipal drain near the SDM Crossing flooded adjacent residential colonies. Within hours, torrential runoff inundated streets, trapped parked vehicles underwater, and breached several homes. Water levels in multiple lanes rose to knee height, leaving residents marooned inside their houses.
Recognizing the severity of the crisis, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to lead rescue operations, navigating submerged streets to evacuate stranded citizens to safer ground. Local residents expressed growing anxiety as dirty drain runoff mixed with rainwater, creating near-flood conditions and raising sanitation concerns.
Municipal drainage systems failed under the sudden pressure, failing to clear the accumulated deluge effectively. Traffic across key arterial roads ground to a halt, with commuters abandoning stalled vehicles in deep water. Local authorities have urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential travel while emergency teams work to clear blocked drainage outlets and restore mobility across the city.
