RAF Officer Sonia Sehrawat Recounts Ordeal From Jantar Mantar Violence After Suffering Fractured Arm
Rapid Action Force officer Sonia Sehrawat suffered a fractured arm while controlling violent protesters during a rally at Jantar Mantar.
New Delhi : Assistant Commandant Sonia Sehrawat of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), who led security personnel during recent agitation at Jantar Mantar, sustained a severe arm fracture while managing unruly crowds attempting to breach police barricades.
Describing the escalation of events, Sehrawat recounted that law enforcement units focused on containing demonstrators at Jantar Mantar to prevent unauthorized marches toward Parliament House without resorting to tear gas. However, the situation deteriorated rapidly as agitators pushed past security lines, triggering chaos and stampede-like conditions along the perimeter.
According to the officer, while attempting to pull female protesters and fallen individuals out of the surging crowd to safety, she was caught in the physical altercation and suffered a broken arm. She noted that while officers attempted calm dialogue with youth in attendance, provocative slogans and elements within the crowd escalated tension, making it challenging to differentiate between peaceful demonstrators and anti-social agitators.
The clash left nearly eight personnel from her team injured alongside dozens of local security forces tasked with maintaining public order along the central Delhi corridor. Despite her injuries, Sehrawat emphasized that security forces remained restrained to avoid severe casualties while ensuring public safety across the sensitive administrative zone.
Delhi Police have detained several key agitators following the scuffle, and senior ministry officials have initiated preliminary reviews regarding security protocols and traffic diversions around Jantar Mantar. Meanwhile, police authorities confirmed that medical treatment has been provided to all injured security staff and affected civilians.
