Five States Partner With National Investigation Agency To Combat Gangster Terror Nexus

New Delhi :  In a significant move to dismantle the rapidly evolving nexus between organized crime syndicates, drug traffickers, and cross-border terrorist networks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) convened a high-level security coordination meeting. The strategic conference brought together the Directors General of Police (DGPs) from five northern states—Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh—to formulate a unified action plan against inter-state gang operations.

The top security officials held extensive deliberations on the emerging security threats posed by overseas-based gangsters who are increasingly using local criminals to execute extortions, targeted killings, and terror activities. The NIA chief emphasized that these criminal syndicates are no longer just a law-and-order issue but have transformed into a sophisticated network threatening national security, often funded through international narco-terrorism routes.

During the meeting, the agencies agreed to establish a dedicated, real-time information-sharing mechanism to track the movement of wanted criminals across state borders. A major focus area discussed was the increasing deployment of drones along the international border for smuggling high-grade weapons and narcotics into Punjab and Jammu, which subsequently fund gang operations across neighbouring states.

The DGPs resolved to launch synchronized crackdowns on the financial networks of these syndicates. This includes accelerating the identification and attachment of properties acquired through extortion and drug smuggling under stringent anti-terror laws. Furthermore, the officials discussed tightening security measures inside state prisons, which are frequently exploited by jailed gangsters to operate their syndicates via smuggled mobile phones. The joint initiative marks a decisive shift towards an integrated, multi-state offensive designed to permanently break the operational backbone of northern India's most notorious crime cartels.
