Innovation Takes Flight at NCC Air Wing Camp Hosted in NIT Hamirpur

Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) : The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, has become a hub of technical ingenuity and aerial ambition as it hosts the Annual Training Camp (ATC-223) for the NCC Air Wing. Organised by the 1 Himachal Pradesh Air Squadron NCC, Kullu, the 10-day event, running from July 5 to July 14, 2026, has brought together 550 cadets from across the state to sharpen their skills in aviation and leadership.  

The highlight of the camp was a captivating aeromodelling display that demonstrated the cadets' engineering prowess. Junior Division cadets exhibited various static projects, while Senior Division members from prestigious institutions like IIT Mandi and NIT Hamirpur performed intricate maneuvers with Control Line Aircraft models. The sky above the campus came alive with self-designed drones and sophisticated Radio-Controlled (RC) aircraft, a testament to the cadets' technical competence and creative problem-solving abilities.  

Under the leadership of Wing Commander Kunal Sharma, Camp Commandant and Commanding Officer, the camp aims to go beyond basic military drills. "The primary objective is to nurture discipline, leadership, and a deeper interest in aviation and innovation," noted Wing Commander Sharma.  

Beyond technical training, the camp has served as a platform for holistic development. Expert guest lectures, including sessions by Colonel Shridhar Rajan on Army entry schemes and interactions with Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar Singh, have provided cadets with vital career guidance. Additionally, Hamirpur SP Balbir Thakur visited the camp to inspire the youth, urging them to lead the state’s anti-drug campaign and uphold the values of national service.

As the camp concludes, it leaves behind a group of motivated cadets, better equipped with the technical expertise and leadership qualities required to serve the nation. The success of this event reinforces the NCC’s role in fostering innovation and discipline among India's future leaders.
