Shimla : The local police have registered a criminal case against a man for allegedly posting highly derogatory and offensive content on social media platforms targeting the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, as well as the President of India. The action follows a formal complaint lodged by a social activist who highlighted the inflammatory nature of the online posts.

According to police officials, the accused had been actively sharing discriminatory remarks and malicious content on his personal social media accounts over the past few days. The posts reportedly contained deeply insulting language aimed at marginalized communities and included objectionable comments directed at the highest constitutional office of the country. The complainant asserted that such digital content was deliberately designed to disrupt communal harmony, incite hatred, and hurt the sentiments of specific communities.

Upon receiving the complaint and verifying the digital evidence, the cyber cell and local police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for promoting enmity between different groups and insulting a public servant. Additionally, stringent provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act have been invoked against the individual.

Senior police officials stated that dedicated cyber teams are currently tracking the digital footprints and IP addresses associated with the profiles to locate and apprehend the accused, who is currently evading arrest. The police have also issued a strict advisory to citizens, urging them to refrain from sharing, liking, or forwarding any discriminatory or hateful content online. Authorities emphasized that social media platforms are being monitored closely and strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite social unrest or disrespect constitutional dignitaries.
