Delhi Metro resumes operations at key stations following brief security shutdown

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reopened key central Delhi transit hubs, including Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, following a brief closure executed on security grounds ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed "Chalo Sansad" march. Entry, exit, and interchange facilities at these major stations were restored after precautionary operational adjustments were coordinated with Delhi Police.

Earlier in the morning, five metro stations—Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth—had their entry and exit gates temporarily shut to regulate heavy commuter crowds and prevent unauthorized public gatherings near Parliament during the opening day of the Monsoon Session. The initial closures led to severe crowding around central Delhi transit points, forcing morning commuters to seek alternative road transport.

Partial Operations Restored: DMRC confirmed that interchange movement and station access were quickly reopened at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat to ease passenger flow.

Security Measures in Place: Delhi Police enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS across the New Delhi district, barring unauthorized assemblies and marches toward Parliament.

Protest Dynamics: The CJP demonstration at Jantar Mantar sought reforms regarding competitive examination integrity, prompting multi-layered security deployments across central Delhi.

Delhi Police maintained strict vigilance across law and order checkpoints, emphasizing that while peaceful assemblies at designated protest sites are permitted, strict action will follow any attempt to breach restricted Parliament zones.
