Senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar appointed as the new Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. A 1994-batch AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre officer, Kumar succeeds Satish Golcha, who was directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next assignment.

The transition follows a approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which repatriated Kumar from his post as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) back to his parent AGMUT cadre. Following the formal handover, Commissioner Kumar paid a courtesy call on Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu to discuss key internal security strategies, public safety, and law enforcement priorities across the national capital.

Who is Anurag Kumar?
Distinguished Career: An Engineering graduate, Kumar brings over three decades of high-level policing and strategic intelligence experience. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) across multiple Delhi districts before moving to the Intelligence Bureau for nearly two decades.

Decorated Record: He was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2010 and the prestigious President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2016.

Known as a meticulous administrator, Kumar urged senior officials to maintain zero tolerance toward corruption while prioritizing community policing initiatives like "Jan Sunwai" to strengthen public trust.

The administrative reshuffle brings an intelligence veteran to lead one of India's largest metropolitan police forces, tasked with safeguarding key constitutional institutions, crime prevention, and managing complex urban law enforcement challenges.
